Caritas Seychelles was founded in 1975 by Bishop Felix Paul to help the poorest and most excluded by providing them with basic human needs: food, clothing, and shelter. As it grew, the scope of the organization’s activities expanded to provide emergency and humanitarian aid, assistance to church projects and groups, assistance programs for the sick, and activities for the elderly and disabled. The organization’s work focuses on the real needs of society, namely youth and families.

The activities and services of Caritas Seychelles are as follows

  • Emergency aid programs that provide life-saving assistance to victims in a country prone to natural disasters such as drought and floods. In January 2013, the organization provided basic necessities and funding to families affected by various disasters.
  • Helping the poor and families in need of basic necessities like food and clothing.
  • Counseling, spiritual and moral support to families.
  • Programs that promote employment.
  • Fundraising activities to help people in distress.
  • Parish activities that collect and distribute donations to clients on a daily basis.
  • Training of members at the parish level to best conduct the organization’s programs.
  • Activities and services that encourage community participation in development, and greater personal, professional, civic and community responsibility.

Caritas Seychelles is headquartered in Mahé and its services are led by 141 dynamic volunteers including 2 youth groups with a total of 20 members. Caritas Seychelles is a member of Caritas Internationalis and Caritas Africa.
