Caritas Burkina Faso is also known as the Catholic Organization for Development and Solidarity (OCADES). It was founded in 1956 with the establishment of the Upper Volta delegation of Secours Catholique, which became Caritas Upper Volta in 1961. The Research and Liaison Office was created in 1973. The Catholic Organization for Development and Solidarity (OCADES) – Caritas Burkina Faso was created on February 5, 1998 by the merger of the Research and Liaison Office and Caritas. The organization covers the entire country through 15 diocesan offices and over 150 parish branches. It aims to promote individual and collective development, social justice, peace and human rights.

Caritas Burkina Faso works in the areas of human development, solidarity and sharing, and operational capacity building. Its programs cover various sectors such as agriculture, relief services, access to basic social services, microfinance, humanitarian aid, reintegration and rehabilitation of vulnerable people, food security and the promotion of women.

In order to achieve its objectives, Caritas Burkina Faso works in partnership with various humanitarian and development organizations at the national and international levels, including the Canadian Foodgrains Bank (CFBG), Canadian Development and Peace, Christians for the Sahel, UNICEF and Light For the World.

It strives to reduce poverty and vulnerability, encouraging people to participate in their own development and promoting good governance and national and international measures to foster economic and social development.

Caritas Burkina Faso aims to create a just society, in which everyone, especially women, has access to social services, drinking water, education and means of production.

The other partners of the Caritas Confederation are: Caritas Internationalis, Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Caritas Italy, Caritas Austria, Caritas Japan, Caritas Korea, Caritas Australia, Caritas Spain, Secours Catholique Caritas France and Caritas Belgium.
